Amy Winehouse Dies at the Age of 27


At 3:54 pm BST (14:54 UTC) on 23 July 2011, two ambulances were called to Winehouse's home in Camden, London. Shortly afterwards, the Metropolitan Police confirmed her death. As of 24 July, the investigation to determine the cause of death, which is described by police as unexplained, is still open. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for 24 July 2011. After her death was announced, media and camera crews appeared as crowds gathered near Winehouse’s residence to pay their respects. Forensic investigators entered the flat as police cordoned off the street outside.
Her record label, Universal Republic, released a statement that read in part: "We are deeply saddened at the sudden loss of such a gifted musician, artist and performer."  Fans and celebrities across the globe are posting their reactions to the Winehouse's sudden death on Twitter and other social networks. Kelly Osbourne, a close friend to Winehouse, posted on her Twitter page, "I cant even breath [sic] right my now im crying so hard i just lost 1 of my best friends. i love you forever Amy & will never forget the real you!"  Mark Ronson tweeted, "she was my musical soulmate & like a sister to me. this is one of the saddest days of my life." [self-published source?] Tony Bennett described Winehouse as "an extraordinary musician with a rare intuition as a vocalist and I am truly devastated that her exceptional talent has come to such an early end. She was a lovely and intelligent person and when we recorded together she gave a soulful and extraordinary performance." Neil Portnow said of Winehouse, "She will forever be remembered for her immense talent, and her music will live on for generations to come.
