Neil Young and Daryl Hannah’s FIRESIDE SESSIONS are providing a very warm and welcomed respite. Music is the great healer and the one true universal language, the intimate fireside solo sessions welcome you to sit by the fire and enjoy some comfort and unfiltered music. Neil and his Archives team have also opened up his subscription website NeilYoungArchives.com so that is now free for all to explore and enjoy during these challenging times.
“Our sponsor, folks,” Young says. “Water and soap. That’s what this is, a soap opera.” Neil Young’s second acoustic Fireside Sessions concert is a ‘Soap Opera.’ The set is packed with rarities like “On the Beach,” “Homefires” and a solo acoustic version of “Words.” He breaks out 1974’s On the Beach. He played it with Promise of the Real at a show in Belgium last summer, but it’s the first solo acoustic rendition since 2003 and only the fourth time he’s done it since 1975. It’s a devastating rendition where lyrics like “The world is turning/I hope it don’t turn away” have never felt so appropriate.” – Rolling Stone
“He demonstrates how to make a homemade harmonica holder, and then does the 1974 studio outtake ‘Homefires’ before wrapping things up with Harvest’s ‘Words’ and Ragged Glory’s ‘Love And Only Love,’ both of which he’s never performed solo acoustic before. Neil Young is helping us get through this trying time with a little music and the magic of the internet.” – Stereogum
“Nothing can stop Neil Young from playing music; not even coronavirus. Young is back at it again today, this time with a Fireside Session featuring some unexpected deep cuts (!) and gorgeous footage of the snow.” – Consequence Of Sound
“Just like the first Fireside Sessions livestream, Neil Young had no problem going deep into his catalog. The sessions have been filmed from Young and Hannah’s home in snowy Colorado. This one runs a hair under 27 minutes. Setlist: ‘Four Strong Winds,’ ‘Birds,’ ‘On The Beach,’ ‘Homefires,’ ‘Words,’ and ‘Love and Only Love.’” – Spin
"Because we are all at home and not venturing out," Young wrote of the series, "We will try to do a stream from my fireplace with my lovely wife filming. It will be a down-home production, a few songs, a little time together.’ Young's latest session runs close to 30 minutes long and sees Neil performing out in the snow, inside sat at his piano, and later beside an actual fire.” – Exclaim
“Neil Young may be on hold for that moment, but he isn’t letting that stop him from playing music for his fans. “Happy to have you hang with us for a little while,” Young and Hannah wrote on the Neil Young Archives. “It’s pretty rough around the edges, as any down-home/low tech slow interwebs production could be. Hope you enjoy. Take care. Sending love and we’ll try to keep ’em coming.” The show takes place all over the house and is packed with rarities, including the first performance of the Hawks & Doves deep cut “Little Wing” since 1977 — the only time he’s done it without his short-lived band the Ducks. He also plays “Love/Art Blues” for the first time since 2008, along with fan favorites “Tell Me Why,” “Razor Love” and the On the Beach classic “Vampire Blues.” The latter song has been done several times with Promise of the Real over the past few years, but this is the first solo rendition since 1974.” – Rolling Stone
