We Are The Catalyst - A Band to Watch Out For
We are the catalyst - Ephemeral Album Review
By: Andrew Mackenzie
When I check out a new band I usually like to go back to their first sounds and find my feet from there. We Are The Catalyst for those who haven't heard of them as I hadn't are a relatively new alternative modern metal four-piece; Cat Fey - Lead Vocals, Kenny Boufadene - Vocals & Guitars, HÃ¥kan Strind - Drums, Joni Kaartinen - Bass from Sweden. They had an EP release in 2013 which was followed by the band’s debut full-length studio album, “Monuments”, in 2014 and a second album, “Elevation”, in 2016. The band released their third album "Ephemeral" on February 13th 2019 this album is being released through directly through the band themselves and set up a crowdfunding page - which they had great success with thanks to their worldwide fan base.

First of all, I looked at the artwork for the album and it was pretty interesting what looks like skulls and a torch rising out of the middle. The band are compared to that of bands like Lacuna Coil or Dead By April so this gives you a rough sound of what to expect. Vocals from lead singer Cat Frey are very strong throughout the album giving the album that feminine touch that will set it apart from other band's along with harmonies from her bandmates in different tracks the lyrics strong and punchy with great range through the album a wonderful mix of light and heavier tracks. looking at the tracklist is great but listening to this has been a great all the different musical aspects, from the band and then they decide to throw in a track completely in Swedish, "Innan Allt Faller" translated means "before everything falls". I had to turn my volume up and rewind it as I thought something was wrong but they had done this track completely in Swedish which was a great little touch adding some character to the album. being a new listener to the music throughout the album, the band's music has grown on me.
The album ends in a really nice way, completing the album It has been great to listen to a new artist and album.
