Chicago Receive Their First Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Nomination
LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) – Chicago has been eligible to be nominate for the Hall of Fame since 1994, 25 years after the release of their double-LP debut, Chicago Transit Authority, (1969), which was an underground hit whose sales were fueled by their incessant touring. That record was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2014, and the band performed on the Grammy stage for the first time that year.
And now, Chicago, the legendary rock and roll band with horns, has another first, a nomination into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Quoting Jazzed Magazine regarding the band’s early years, “Chicago jettisoned the ensuing fusion of jazz and rock that burst onto the music scene with an unprecedented dynamic explosion.” The band went on to sell over 100 million records, had five #1 albums and 11 #1 singles. An incredible 25 of their 36 albums have been certified platinum, and the band has a total of 47 gold and platinum awards. They are the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums in six decades.
With four original band members, Robert Lamm (keyboards, vocals), Lee Loughnane (trumpet, vocals), James Pankow (trombone) and Walt Parazaider (woodwinds), the band’s horn section remains the longest performing horn section in the music industry today a 48 years.
Three band members, Jason Scheff (bass, vocals), Tris Imboden (drums), and Keith Howland (guitar, vocals) have been with the band 30, 25 and 20 years respectively. The other two members, Lou Pardini (keyboards, vocals) and Walfredo Reyes, Jr. (percussion) joined in the last few years.
The band’s songwriters, Robert Lamm (“Saturday In The Park,” “25 Or 6 To 4,” “Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?” and more), Jimmy Pankow (“Make Me Smile,” “Colour My World,” “Just You ‘N’ Me” and more), and Lee Loughnane (“Call On Me,” “No Tell Lover” and more) have written the music for many people’s lives, and they remain some of the most prolific songwriters of our industry. The songs above represent just some of the band’s 21 Top 10 singles.
Chicago have toured every year since 1967, they’ve never missed a year. And they’re two years away from their 50th anniversary.
The band recently completed a sold-out US summer tour and will continue with more shows in 2015 and a full year of concerts around the world in 2016, including perhaps a special Hall of Fame induction. ·
