Wednesday, March 18 at The Main
Taking place Wednesday, March 18 at the The Main from noon to 6 p.m., Dim Mak’s annual showcase will feature a rare b2b2b throwback electro set between Steve Aoki and secret guests, as well as performances from SBCR (The Bloody Beetroots DJ set), Crookers, Little Boots, Lil Debbie, Will Brennan and GITCHII. The 21+ event is free with RSVP at AustinPartyWeekend.com.
For the first time ever, Dim Mak’s showcase has been included in IHEARTCOMIX’s Austin Party Weekend and will be featured alongside 14 other labels such as Mad Decent, OWSLA and Fool’s Gold during the ninth-annual, four-day event.
"After years of putting on our own Dim Mak official & unofficial showcases, we’re stoked to be part of our first Austin Party Weekend as we close in on our label’s 20th anniversary,” Dim Mak Records founder Steve Aoki explains. “We’re honored to have our showcase aligned with labels we have major respect for and homies we’ve come up with over the last two decades.”
Aoki’s b2b2b performance with surprise guests will pay homage to Dim Mak’s first entrance into the dance music world when the label transitioned from its punk and indie roots into a tastemaker of trailblazing electronic outputs. Sparked by The Bloody Beetroots’ 2009 electro classic “Warp 1.9” and honed by gritty, robotic releases from the likes of MSTRKFT and Etienne De Crecy, Dim Mak’s golden dance-punk era will be on full display during this nostalgia-inducing headlining set.
Dim Mak’s deep-rooted relationship with The Bloody Beetroots comes full circle with a performance from frontman Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo’s DJ project: SBCR. While The Bloody Beetroots remain an eclectic, rock-influenced live electronic band, SBCR is Bob’s strictly DJ-performance moniker under which he’ll release his dancefloor-focused debut EP SBCR & Friends, Vol. 1 on March 17 via Dim Mak Records.
Crookers is also gearing up for a major Dim Mak release (his first for the label), unleashing his Sixteen Chapel album later this May. The 11-track album will be proceeded on April 14 with the release of the uniquely bouncy, hip hop / electro hybrid singe “I Just Can’t” featuring vocals from R&B star Jeremih.
While Little Boots will represent the label’s electropop forays with her glamours, visceral DJ set, Dim Mak’s passion for hip hop will be led by rhymesayer and viral social media sensation Lil Debbie as well as Dim Mak’s first signed MC Will Brennan. Rounded off by newly discovered Dim Mak signee GITCHII, Dim Mak’s SXSW showcase will embody the label’s longstanding dedication to music innovation across the genre spectrum.
