Iron Man 3 picks up where The Avengers movie left off. Tony Stark finds himself suffering from anxiety after his encounter with the aliens in New York and while he is going through his personal turmoil, a terrorist who calls himself The Mandarin, is wreaking havoc on the rest of the world. Tony’s relationship with Pepper has become strained and previous encounters in Tony’s life come back to haunt him as the story unfolds.
The strong points start and end with Robert Downey Jr.’s impeccable performance and delivery of Tony Stark. Downey Jr. really follows suit to the comic book aspects where Tony Stark really had some flawed scenarios with his character. In Iron Man 3 we find Tony having a nervous breakdown and winds up relying on a child to help him through a tough period as he works on his Iron Man suit with rudimentary tools. While we see a deeper side to Tony Stark that Downey Jr. delivers flawlessly, the audience is left with a good portion of the movie with Downey Jr. not in his armor. Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle’s characters both make appearances in the armor and with this installment their characters have really blossomed into an integral part of the story.
The 1080p Blu-ray of Iron Man delivers an impeccable picture quality that even the extensive CGI flows wonderfully if even a few of the wider shots lose a bit of sharpness and detail but, as a whole are quite impressive. The real star that shines through is the 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio sound mix. The aggressive low end delivers a bombastic room shaking bass and the dialogue is completely discernible while the music sets the tone throughout making for both a stunning visual and enriching audible home presentation.
Iron Man 3 delivers a wonderfully fun and engaging movie going experience and lives up to the expectations the franchise has come to expect and will make a great addition to any movie collection.
