Review by James Klein

Sure, laugh all you want. Full Moon Entertainment must be making a buck on these Gingerdead Man movies as now they have released the third installment. While I wanted to commit hara-kiri while watching Evil Bong 3-D, I found myself groaning and yet laughing a little while watching Gingerdead Man 3. It's pretty awful and cheesy (and cheap) but yet there were a few jokes that did work and plenty of vulgarity that my juvenile sense of humor found quite funny at times.

Gingerdead Man 3 starts off with a parody of Silence of the Lambs as a Jodie Foster looking woman goes to the Research Institute of Homicidal Baked Goods to speak to the Gingerdead Man about what makes him and other pastries go homicidal. While she walks down the corridor to see a masked Gingerdead Man, she gets squirted in the face by a muffin who shoots cream out the top of his head. I couldn't help but laugh over this and at how silly the whole thing looked. As we all know, my dislike for CGI runs deep in my blood and it was nice to see these killer pastries done by puppets. By using puppets, it made the joke work.

When Gingerdead Man breaks free he runs into a pair of scientists who created a time machine and Gingerdead Man goes back in time to 1976 (just go with it) to cause more havoc. He takes refugee at a roller-skate disco while parodies of films like Roller Boogie, Saturday Night Live, Carrie and even Porky's takes place. As the Gingerdead Man screams obscenities (my favorite is a cutaway of him calling a girl "cunt" for no reason) and kills these young roller-skating idiots, the film starts to get dragged down with a Carrie-esque plot about a telekinetic girl whose crazy aunt must shut down the roller-skating disco due to back taxes. Whatever.

Gingerdead Man 3 isn't subtle in any way. It's over the top, stupid, and completely ridiculous and cheap. However, there are some funny moments in the film when it was mocking a movie or being gross that I found amusing. It's obvious actor turned director William Butler loves the horror genre and his passion for some of these old films that he's sending up is not bad. I would much prefer to see him make a slapstick Naked Gun-type film than cheap junk like this. Gingerdead Man 3 would have been much more entertaining had they used more practical gore effects and some nice gratuitous nudity (the sex scene here is super weak and plays like its PG-13). If you want to go over the top, then do it! Don't be afraid to show some skin and show more blood. It's Gingerdead Man 3 for Christ sakes!

Overall the third Gingerdead Man film is silly and dumb like you expect but there is a certain kind of charm and immature vulgarity that appealed to me.
