On May 24th, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment releases Lemonade Mouth: Extended Edition on DVD! When five ragtag freshmen first meet in detention, it seems they have nothing in common. Lemonade Mouth is a resonant, music-filled movie about five teens who break through to become the voice of their generation. The movie is 2011’s No. 1 cable movie in Total Viewers and the No. 1 TV movie among Kids 6-11 and Tweens. Additionally, Lemonade Mouth's original soundtrack also has become a huge success, ranking in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200 for two weeks, No. 1 on the iTunes Soundtrack chart and No. 4 on the iTunes Album chart. The album also ranked No. 1 on Billboard’s Soundtrack and Children’s Music charts. Moreover, hit songs "Somebody," "Determinate" and "Don't Ya Wish U Were Us" rank in the Radio Disney Top 30.
Synopsis
This spirited, music-driven movie introduces an unlikely ensemble of five students -- Olivia, Wen, Stella, Mohini and Charlie – who, after meeting in detention, gradually realize their shared musical connection and belief that it's time for the students of Mesa High to stand up and be heard on things big and small (ranging from the school Principal's exclusive support of the athletic programs to the removal of the popular organic lemonade from the cafeteria). Ultimately, as they open up to each other and form friendships, they start a band -- Lemonade Mouth -- that soon resonates with students sidelined by the high school elite. However, not everyone in the school is ready to cheer them on, especially since the popular rock group Mudslide Crush is determined to maintain their headline status and win the coveted Rising Star music competition.
Based on the book Lemonade Mouth by Mark Peter Hughes and directed by award-winning Patricia Riggen (La Misma Luna aka Under the Same Moon), executive-produced by Debra Martin Chase (The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Disney Channel's "The Cheetah Girls" movies), co-produced by Gaylyn Fraiche (Just Wright, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2) and choreographed by Chris Scott (TV’s "So You Think You Can Dance").

Disney always knew how to put together a group of young talented individuals and make them into Rising Stars, Determinate!
Lemonade Mouth is another story, another movie about high school kids finding themselves, their friends, making choices, having parents watch them turn to into young adults, and start revolutions. Every few years Disney produces a music movie, which turns into child/teen sensation. Just 2 years ago, my daughter was listening and watching the Cheetah Girls and High School Musical. Then a few weeks back, the Disney Channel aired an original movie on April 15th called Lemonade Mouth. My nine year old got hooked and "turned the world into her dance floor with Determinate." Ask any kid in the primary grades and they know of Lemonade Mouth.
The movie has 2 or 3 catchy tracks and the story is more or less the same as a ton of movies where the plot is rehashed for current time. Lemonade Mouth is that movie for 2010, a great talented cast, cool songs and very entertaining. The DVD does not have too many additional extras. One bonus scenes, an additional talk show piece, take a step 8 months after high school, now the fictions band is selling out shows, and is on the Moxie Morris show called the Music Scene with their new single.
The story starts at a high school where the principal, played by Christopher McDonald (this guys loves to play the bad guy), as the school principal who supports sports and letter jackets for the school evil money sponsors. The kids who do not conform (or participate) to what brings in the cash are kind of outcasts. All their extracurricular activities and clubs are all pushed to classrooms in the basement of the school. That is where our group originates, with the other misfits, such as math students, the one lonely chess player, art club, visual and audio, and detention students, while athletes and cheerleaders get off with warnings. The group in detention meets the first time as well as for various reasons. The scene to the detention is common to all, just before entering the detention room; they all stop and purchase lemonade from Mel's lemonade machine. Beginning to see how the band name originated?
Detention is held in the music room, as the teacher steps out everything clicks for these strangers as they being to jam and the roots of Lemonade Mouth begin. The detention teacher, also our music teacher, hears the youth and tells them they have to perform in the Rising Star competition. The detention group all state, "we don't even know each other," answered back by the teacher, "it's destiny."
Our band is made up of Disney talented young stars: our guitarist and revolutionary Stella Yamada (played by Hayley Kiyoko, ex-The Stunners), Mohini 'Mo' Banjaree on bass (played by Naomi Scott), Olivia White our lead vocals (played by Bridgit Mendler), Wendell "Wen" Gifford keys and rap (played by Adam Hicks), and Charles "Charlie" Delgado the cute drummer (played by Blake Michael).
As with some other Disney movies, you always have a villain, in our case it's the band Mudslide Crush, made up by the school jocks. As the movie progresses with this rivalry of two bands, Mudslide Crush lead singer, Ray Beech (played by Chris Brochu) tries to sabotage the group. However, Scott Pickett (played by Nick Roux), Mudslide Crush's lead guitarist has his own crush on Lemonade's mouth bassist Mo, winds up leaving his band, and becoming part of Lemonade Mouth. What great career move on his Scott Pickett's part.
Lemonade Mouth strong theme through out the movie is self expression and friendship. They roll through this for the entirety of the film. Friendships begin and go through good as well as bad times. In addition, family, a big part of this story, as each member deals with personal family issues ranging from loss, isolation, being an older rebel sibling, dad marrying a new wife, and all that jazz with family life.
