Holy shit! I am not a huge fan of adult films as I have previously said in the past but when a movie has the balls to go completely apeshit and become almost incoherent with its story, editing and direction, then my interests peak. Vinegar Syndrome's latest Drive-In Collection double feature does just that by releasing two obscure adult films that had me rolling with laughter and scratching my head wondering what the hell I just saw.
The Vixens of Kung Fu is the first film on the DVD and it starts out like a take on Last House on the Left. A prostitute is all alone in the middle of the woods and runs into three strange men (one is played by the late Jamie Gillis) who attack her and eventually rape her. While this may sound rather sick and disgusting, its played almost for laughs like a comedy! The music sounds like it was ripped off from a Benny Hill episode. One of the rapists doesn't event touch the woman and just sits there watching his buddies as he puts a sock on his penis, doing some good old fashioned jerking. One rapist sounds like Michael J. Pollard on crack who continues to spout off some insane dialog as he has sex. What a way to start a movie!
After the woman is raped, the film just starts jumping all over the place as the prostitute meets a gang of female kung fu experts (all in the woods still) who train her to fight back against men. These women train her in the art of erotic martial arts by showing her how to make smoke come out of her vagina while meditating. There is also a subplot involving Ha Tien Sau, (Peonies Jong) a high priestess who fights against these women and sets off her best kung fu expert to fight these women on their own turf. This guy is her best fighter as we see him train by running on a beach with a huge weight tied to his dick. I'm not making this up, people! I dare anyone to watch that scene with a straight face.
The editing is so chaotic and the film jumps all over the place that I honestly had no idea what was happening. While it would have ruined a normal film, it made this adult movie entertaining and a lot of fun. Nude kung fu fighting is always a must see.
The second film, Oriental Blue, is much more straightforward but still offers viewers plenty of laughs within its strange plot and hilarious dialog. Peonies Jong returns as Madame Blue, an Oriental slave madame who owns a brothel above a Chinese restaurant. Women are kidnapped and brought back to her, as they are forced to drink this love potion that makes the women want to have sex with any of its customers. Even Madame Blue gets in on the action from time to time, demanding her feet to be sucked on.
There isn't too much going on with the plot but there is plenty of sex and strange dialog along with abrupt editing that must be director Bill Milling's trademark. Even some of the cast, including Jamie Gillis, return in this film for another go around of sex and debauchery What had me in stitches was watching an adult film with music from Enter the Dragon and The Day the Earth Stood Still playing in the background! Hard not to keep a straight face while a woman is having her box chowed on while Lalo Schifrin's iconic score is played. And was that a Beatles tune I heard in the background?
Both films are presented in the 1:85 ratio and while the prints are a bit damaged, the picture quality is pretty good. Vinegar did a good job at taking these 35 mm prints and making them look like new. There are no special features which is kind of a drag, especially given these obscure and insanely bizarre films are hard to seek out and little is known of its history. While I am not a big adult movie fan, these are my kind of sex films: strange, funny, and very hairy! God bless the 1970's!
Both films: [Rating: 3]
