Shot in 1979 but not released until the end of 1980, this adult film is a strange take on the Cinderella fairy tale. In fact, it borrows very little from Cinderella and briefly uses it as a back drop for long, drawn out sex scenes.
Cindy (get it?) is really a princess who seems to be trapped in some nice home in Hollywood Hills, overlooking a seashore. As she cleans and does house work she is told by her evil step mother and step sisters to fuck, suck, and do all sorts of nasty business to various people or themselves. Cindy's fairy Godmother (played by the beautiful China Leigh) tries to help her by making her climax. The fairy Godmother also tries to narrate the story but by doing so, makes the film even more incoherent.
As Cindy watches an orgy take place (one of the men is played by legendary adult film star Jamie Gillis) she dresses up in a sexy nightie and proceeds to seduce the men who are already banging her step sisters. The next morning, one of the men finds her shoe and tries to find out which dame he banged as that is the one he "loves". It's pretty funny to see a guy run around with a woman's shoe, completely naked. This may have been the highlight of the film for me because it seemed so comical.
Needless to say, Serena: An Adult Fairy Tale is a complete bore. The movie has very little dialog so there is nothing to really laugh at (unless you are shocked like me to see the bushes on these women! Dear God, The Fairy Godmother looks like she has a tarantula on her lap!). The strange orchestra music tries to give this adult film some sort of class but just seems out of place. While I always wanted to see a Fred J. Lincoln adult film, (he is mostly known for playing the role of Weasel in 1972's The Last House on the Left. Sadly, Lincoln died in January of this year) he is no Radley Metzger. The camera is too shaky and we get strange zoom ins and close ups of flowers and other parts of furniture in the house. This must be Lincoln's sad attempt at trying to be classy or arty. Hard to do that when your film has not one, but two scenes of people performing 69 with each other.
Like most Impulse DVD's, there are no extra features. I was also disappointed in the film print used for this DVD. There are jumps, scratches, film stock color changes, it looks like hell. I would say skip this one unless you want to see some of the biggest mounds of pubic hair you have ever seen.
