Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides hits the Blu-ray format in a 1080p AVC encoded video with an average bitrate of 24 Mpbs. The 1080p picture boasts a reference quality image and stands up as the previous Pirates of the Caribbean did with strong deep colors that have their vivid tonality jumping off the screen. Deeply saturated backgrounds provide and excellent showcase to the contrast and flesh tones providing a wonderful visual experience.
The audio in 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio provides a wonderful listening experience and provides the emotion necessary for an action/adventure film without being too over the top making it hard to hear the center channel. The dynamics provide a perfect experience allowing for the music and action sequences to not drown out the dialogue. The subwoofer will get a workout but, truly is a reference quality experience with both the audio and video.
As for features, you will need to buy the Limited Edition 5-Disc Combo Pack (1-Disc Blu-ray 3D + 2-Disc Blu-ray + 1-Disc DVD + 1- Disc Digital Copy) to get your full fix of Captain Jack Sparrow. The problem is that you will wind up paying for the 3D version even if you don't have a 3D TV just to get the bonus features and discs. Disney should have been more courteous to it's target audience instead of squeezing ever last penny out of the consumers who already spend their hard earned money at the movies and who purchase all of the merchandise and DVD's.
