The Most Fun Family Film This Side of the Universe! Disney’s Mars Needs Moms Coming to Earth on Blu-ray™ Combo Pack with 3D, DVD, Movie Download & On-Demand August 9, 2011

Editorial Review by Adam Bielawski
In Mom Needs Mars, the 3D animation at the theater was really good.  The movie's animation at times is kind of creepy; how real computer generated graphics can make people look animated.  This movie reminds me of the animation directly in The Polar Express from a few years with Tom Hanks. The characters features were so real; it’s almost creepy at the same time very cool. Mom Needs Mars is that kind of movie, a sci-fi animation that will make you laugh, scared, and maybe even shed a tear because of mom.  The colors in the Blu-ray are better than seeing this at the show, they are absolutely gorgeous, with high detail of the animation that is really visualized on a high definition set.  The audio is very good as well; I bet if you have a good home sound system it’s rocks. However, my TV sound is build in.  The sound is crisp and sharp. I have not watched the home 3D movie, but the Blu-ray on a larger screen is out of this world.  Even if you do not have a new flat screen, this movie is great on just a regular tube. If the story is good, the animation is good; it’s great movie for home viewing.

Mars Needs Mars is a movie about family and how important a mom is to every youngster. The movie starts out with Martians viewing moms on earth who would make a good nanny bot.  The Martian nanny bot duty is to raise and make the young Martians obedient.  As the Martians scan earth for a mother who would fit the bill as a disciplinarian, they choose Milo’s mom.  The Martians observe Milo’s mom instructing him to take out the garbage obediently.  The choice is made by the Martians and the screen turns off.  We are now taken to the home of Milo where he just gets off the phone with his dad, who’s on a business trip, and mom is serving him dinner.  Broccoli is part of the dinner,  but Milo don’t like broccoli, his mom says if he eats it he can watch TV, guess what, Milo feeds the broccoli to his cat. Later that night, the cat throws up. Milo’s mom is very upset and sends Milo to bed with no TV. Out of anger, Milo tells his mom that “I wish I never had a mom.” The mom walks out of his room without a word.  Later on Milo starts feeling sorry and goes to apologize to his mom, but mom is being abducted by the aliens. Milo chases them to the space ship and stows away to save his mom.  As they arrive Milo is discovered and put under arrest.  Milo escapes through a garbage shoot to inner Mars where he meets Gribble, who was the one who helped Milo escape.

Within the Martian city the person who is in charge is the elder Martian called the Supervisor, she rules with an iron stick and does not like disorganization or disobedience.  However, Mars also has its anarchists, as colorful graphitti is seen on one of the walls, which upsets the Supervisor, but there are Martians in secrecy, who cheer for the rebellious nature of the graphitti rebel.  Milo is safe for now in the underground of Mars, which is basically the city dump. Gribble brings him to his safe house. Gribble is so excited to have another human with him, to play and do whatever they want. But Milo’s only concern is to save his mom.  Gribble finally realizes that Milo does not want to play but saves his mom.  Gribble devises a plan to save Milo’s mom, which back fires.  Gribble is taken and Milo hides from the guards.  Milo discovers a photo of Gribble whose real name is George Ribble, who mom was taken away many years ago when he was young.  However Gribble could not save his mom and not hides his feelings.

While Milo is in hiding he runs into Ki, the colorful graphitti artist inspired by 60’s flower era.  Both discover the old Martian ruins of when Martians took care of their family’s with love.  Ki and Milo help save Gribble, and all together help rescue Milo’s mom before the programming takes place.  After the valiant and successful attempt, they Ki reveals to all the Martians of their lost past and the Supervisor is taken away to prison for hiding the historical Maritain family.

Milo and his mom return to earth, but Gribble decides to stay with Ki on Mars, a new Mars where family now shows love.  Martians were deceived by the Supervisor that obedience was how to raise the young, but “LOVE” is needed for us all.
