If you are a fan of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg you will laugh your ass off at this movie. The premise is that everywhere you go you have the stars on the team, at the company, at the organization, and on even on the police force. Then you have the rest of the people supporting the star players, and then the other guys that no one knows about. Well this is what this movie is about, 2 cops Allen Gamble (Ferrell) and Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg) stuck in the back manning their desk, the joke of the department. When an opportunity calls for the other guys at the police station, it's usually not good for the super cops, in our movie the two get killed; you can guess what happened, when high testosterone comes before intelligence. Our two super cops played by Wayne Johnson and Samuel Jackson are the perfect roles for the job, tough, high energy, destructive, funny, and the bad guys are always brought in. The movie starts as a super cop blockbuster till our star cops bite the pavement. Now the door opens in our police department for a new New York duo to replace our super cops. Gamble the easy going cop who enjoys his desk job, and Hoitz wants action. The two, who are partners with different ideas of a cop job ... and also the butt end joke of the department. But the two are not your every day cops, Gamble is an accountant, analysis, and is just positive in everything, while Hoitz wants to be a bad ass but now holds a role as a desk cop for firing his weapon (you have to watch the movie to see who he shoots). As dispatch calls for back up, Hoitz ready to jump at the opportunity to prove they can be the new super cops, however Gamble is not having any of it but finally does get forced to go out with Hoitz. On a routine run, the two stop to make an arrest for not paying on city building code license. The two just happen to arrest a hedge fund giant. This arrest takes our duo on typical action cop movie, with a little comedy. Now the guns, kidnapping, the money laundering, drugs, pimps, and of course blown up buildings enter the movie scenes. One of the most hilarious scenes in the movie is when Ferrell car, a Toyota Prius, is towed away and dumped on the streets where a homeless gang of men called Dirty Mike and the Boys hold orgies in the car... just the thought of it gets you uneasy, but it's hilarious in The Other Guys.
As all partners, the two depend and support each other. Leaning each other secrets, past and relationships. However Gamble has a past that he rather keep dormant that start to surface as the movie rolls. Some great laughs and a bit of action, I meant AWESOME laughs and you will love the movie as a Ferrell fan.
The movie has a cool cast including Eva Mendes who plays Gambles wife which he considers unattractive and normal. Michael Keaton plays the Captain, as well as holds a part time job and many others funny folks from Hollywood. The two, Ferrell and Wahlberg make a great comedy duo and I do hope to see more in the future.
