Luisa Maita Makes Waves in the United States
Over the weekend I had the chance to catch Luisa Maita at Logan Square Auditorium for a evening of Brazlian music. She has been dubbed as “The New Voice of Brazil“, Luisa Maita is the latest Brazilian export to captivate the American audience. She’s already making me fantasize about Brazil the way Tribalistas and Seu Jorge did last decade. Her latest album “Lero Lero” blends recognizable samba sounds with exhilarating modernity. As NPR notes, “Maita can set a love song to a martial arts rhythm; evoke harsh realities of ghetto life with gentleness and dry-eyed humanity…” It would have been the perfect time to catch her because I feel that within a year she could be as big as either Shakira or Lady Gaga. She hit the top of the iTunes Latino chart and she’s on the cusp of setting the groove around households all across the U.S.
