Later, she took piano lessons at ten years old but says despite this, she plays by ear. She also plays guitar and flute. Her musical influences include growing up listening to contemporary Christian artist, Stacie Orrico, her main vocal influence - Christina Aguilera, admiration for Beyoncé, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Heavy Metal, Dub Step and DJ Music, and she listened to Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden, and Tool.

YouTube wise she is the fourth most subscribed to musician, at least as of April 2013 and is at close to 3 million subscribers. Madilyn Bailey: Madilyn is an acoustic pop singer/songwriter who gained notoriety on YouTube. She was born September 2, 1992 in a small Wisconsin town and has two sisters and two brothers. That makes her a cheesehead. Seriously. She started writing songs at the early age of 7 and used songwriting to express the joys and sorrows she saw people go through in life around her.

Madilyn describes herself before fame as a down to earth and nerdy tomboy, who only started to wear make-up and dresses for videos to “look the part”. She loves video games, board games and chemistry and a huge part of her life was the Science Olympiad, a national competition for grades K-12. She says if she wasn’t in music she probably would have been a forensic scientist or in a lab somewhere.

Maddy, as her friends call her, started playing piano at 9 years old to prep for drumming. She later took up acoustic guitar when she went to a summer music festival in Minnesota and picked up her father’s guitar. Coming home from the festival she told her mother she wrote a song for her on the guitar and her mother told Maddy that she didn’t play guitar. Apparently she had learned enough in a few days of the camping music festival to start writing with it.

Also before fame, Madilyn worked as a certified nursing assistant in a nursing home. She took it gradual with her switching to a music career and leaving her job behind.

Madilyn up loaded her first video to YouTube in Fall of 2009. The motivation behind it and rewriting hip hop songs into pop covers was that her brother was leaving for Iraq and his favorite artist was Eminem. So, she took an Eminem song, switched up the melody, cleaned up the lyrics and posted it and it went viral.

By November 2009 she had launched her own YouTube channel which has almost 2 million subscribers as of this writing and by 2012 was signed to an independent label called, Keep Your Soul Records.

2012 and 2013 she was a finalist in the Guitar Center Singer/Songwriter Competition, selected by producer John Shanks both times.

Six albums, “The Covers Volumes 1-6” and an EP, “Bad Habit” later, Madilyn is married to James Bernard (2014) and living between L.A. and Wisconsin with songwriting and life development at home and music videos, recording and interviews in L.A.
