Someone You Need To Hear

By C. Duke

If you haven’t heard of LP yet, you need to look her up on youtube and her site, “iamlp.com”. LP (Laura Pergolizzi) is a slight American ukulele wielding singer/songwriter with a power house voice and a stage persona to match. She’s quite the whistler too.

LP got her start in New York City in the early 2000s with her own band of the same moniker releasing two albums, “Heart-Shaped Scar” and “Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol”. She moved to L.A. in 2010 and after a couple of record label changes and a stint writing for other artist such as Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Leona Lewis, Cher and a plethora of others. LP started performing again in clubs around L.A., she released an EP, “Into the Wild” in April of 2012 with Warner Brothers Records and in 2012 became Martin Guitars’ first female Ambassador.

LP is currently touring following the release of her album with Warner Brothers Records, “Forever for Now”, released June 2, 2014.

She gave a phenomenal performance at San Diego’s small club, Casbah, Wednesday, September 24th. Spot on vocals without a sour note she opened with, “Free to Love”, with a chorus that states, “…the day has come, the day has

come…we’re free to love, free to love”. Tokyo Sunrise is a crowd favorite and the official video has just been released on youtube. It will have your mouth agape at the Japanese scale used in the chorus performed with razor sharp precision and vocal altitude. A must see live. LP performed her complete album as well as some covers such as Phil Collins’, “I Can Feel it in the Air” and the Beatles’, “Something”. The latter performed with just her ukulele as an encore.

Closing this stellar performance was, “Into the Wild” her runaway hit from the City Bank commercial with the girl rock climbing to dizzying heights.

Afterward LP was gracious enough to meet and greet her fans, signing items and taking pictures. A nice way to cap off a show for this voice of voices. - Read the full story at UnRatedMagazine.com
