Megafauna Announce New Album Welcome Home out May 27, 2016
Stereogum Premieres Debut Single "Desire"
US Tour Dates Announced
On May 27th, the Austin-based three-piece Megafauna will release Welcome Home, their fourth studio album and follow up to 2014's critically acclaimed Maximalist.

Today, Stereogum premiered "Desire," the first song to be released from the album. Collin Robinson said "...for their upcoming LP, Welcome Home, they’ve revisited proto-metal in a major way, supporting it with cutting melodies and cosmic trips... The album’s opener, “Desire,” is like a slowly built Jenga tower in which one piece gets pulled and an all-out rhythmic assault ensues."
Stream the track via Soundcloud:
"I wrote Desire after being awake for 36 hours," says guitarist and songwriter Dani Neff.  "The song came from a place of deep self exploration, an attempt to get to a version of my self located beneath the surface of reality.  I couldn't sleep and every time I closed my eyes I saw a seemingly infinite string of disturbing faces, each expanding out from the last.  I sat down at my guitar and the song just flowed out of me.  Songs often take me weeks or months to write but this one just flowed out in one piece with all of its off the wall time shifts and key changes.  It felt like channeling a gift from another dimension."
Formed in 2008, the Austin-based band led by guitarist and singer Dani Neff dives deep into the sounds of soul exploration leveraged on the powerful rhythm section of drummer Zack Humphrey and bassist Will Krause. Eschewing the progressive rock stylings of their earlier work, Megafauna reaches back toward the proto-metal haze of Black Sabbath and Sir Lord Baltimore while ushering it skyward with sharp melodies and the space-rock production work of Curtis Roush and The Bright Light Social Hour.
The album was crafted throughout 2015 in the cloistered bungalow studio of The Bright Light Social Hour and given a muscular mix by veteran engineer Erik Wofford (Black Angels, Bill Callahan). Through a deep look inside and above for new awareness, Megafauna has forged their most vital work to date; a hard, dark psychedelia built to expand in one moment only to explode in the next.
