Ryan Culwell Announces New US Tour Dates and SXSW Showcases

New Album Flatlands Out Today on
Lightning Rod Records

First Record In More Than 8 Years Embraced by
CMT Edge, Country Weekly, Folk Alley, PopMatters,
Rolling Stone, The Bluegrass Situation and more
Today, Ryan Culwell releases Flatlands, his first album in more than 8 years on Lightning Rod Records (Joe Pug, Amanda Shires, Billy Joe Shaver). Additonally, Culwell has announced his first tour dates in support of the album that begin with a March 7th free record release show at the Jackalope Brewery in Nashville, TN. He will also head to Austin on March 17th for the 2015 SXSW music conference.

Last week, Rolling Stone Country premiered the full album in it's entirety. Andrew Leahey said Flatlands sounds "like the Bible Belt cousin to Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska," as well as "the score to some long-lost Cormac McCarthy film, its tracklist split between roadhouse-worthy roots rockers, front porch county songs and haunting, blue collar ballads about life and loneliness in the Lone Star State."

Culwell's latest effort has been received to great praise, garnering acclaim from the likes of CMT Edge, Country Weekly, Folk Alley, Guitar World, The Bluegrass Situation, and many more.

Today, Guitar World Acoustic Nation premiered an exclusive session of Culwell performing the "contemplative" track "Won't Come Home."

Writing in PopMatters, Lee Zimmerman called Flatlands "a fascinating album, one that offers every indication it will provide some sort of breakthrough."

Kelly McCartney of The Bluegrass Situation said "Like Jimmi Dale Gilmore, Rodney Crowell, Nanci Griffith and so many others before him, Ryan Culwell wears his heritage right on his sleeve, right next to his heart."

Guitar World Acoustic Nation debuted "Never Gonna Cry," the first single to be released from the album, and called it "masterfully crafted and artfully delivered."
